Fortum sets up business and appoints Philippe Stohr as Country Manager in France
PRESS RELEASE, 12 December 2011
Fortum has appointed Mr. Philippe Stohr as Country Manager for Fortum France SNC to develop the company’s activities in France. Prior to joining Fortum, Mr. Stohr was Director of Strategy and Development for Dalkia in Germany.
Establishing a country organisation to France is an important step in Fortum's ambition to participate in developing the French renewable energy in the long-term. Fortum France SNC is focusing on two areas of renewable energy: the forthcoming participation in the renewal of French hydropower concessions and the development of wave energy through the recently signed cooperation agreement with French DCNS.
In line with its strategy, Fortum will participate in the tendering process for hydropower concession renewals in France as announced at the end of 2010. Fortum considers the renewal of the concessions an opportunity for increasing its share of hydropower in the heart of the European electricity markets. Today, Fortum owns and operates some 260 hydropower plants with the total capacity of 4,700 MW in the Nordic countries. In 2010, almost 90% of Fortum’s power production in Europe was CO2-free and more than 40% based on renewable energy sources.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to bring our experience and competence in France and to develop local cooperation in the French renewable energy business", says Mr. Matti Ruotsala, Executive Vice President of Fortum, when announcing the new French country organisation and the appointment of Mr. Philippe Stohr. "Fortum aims to play a significant part in the next generation renewable energy system, and Fortum France will lead our efforts to develop French power business in the long-term."
