Fortum submits investigation request to the police concerning suspected
financial misconduct in subsidiary

Fortum Corporation has submitted an investigation request to the Helsinki
Police concerning possible financial misconduct in professional services
company Hexivo Oy that does business in Russia. Fortum owns 52% of Hexivo
through Fortum Nuclear Services Ltd and a Russian company owns the rest. The
possible misconduct is related to financial transactions between Hexivo and the
Russian company during 1998-2010. Fortum is cooperating with the police and
has, in addition, launched a thorough internal inquiry into the matter.

"The only accepted way to do business at Fortum is described in our Code of
Conduct and all our employees are expected to conduct themselves, and their
business, in compliance with the Code. It is of utmost importance to us that the
matter is thoroughly investigated," says Tapio Kuula, President and CEO of
Fortum.

Fortum will not comment the case during the ongoing investigation.
