Group Exhibition 27 September - 25 November

The Autumn Salon at Fotografiska is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2018 and so we're taking the next step and donning a new outfit: Fotografiska Talent. Sweden's largest juried exhibition has evolved into an important reflection of modern times and remains open to applications from all Swedish citizens, as well as long-term residents. Of the 26 exhibitors, 20 were accepted and 6 nominated by the Jury. It’s becoming clear that people as human beings are at the centre of things in 2018.

For four consecutive years, Fotografiska has been the creator – and proud host – of the largest juried exhibition in Swedish photography, known as the Autumn Salon. Open to all photographers – established as well as amateur – the Fotografiska Autumn Salon, now presented in the new outfit Fotografiska Talent, has become more than simply a platform for showcasing Swedish photography at its best.

With its breadth of varied expressions, emotions and techniques, it's evolved into an exhibition that receptively reflects the times and highlights issues of central importance to modern-day society. Everything from climate change and humankind's relationship to nature through current political challenges to poetic imagery have captivated visitors to Fotografiska. Since 2014, when the exhibition was inaugurated, many thousands of photographers have applied, a hundred or so have been selected by the various renowned juries and hundreds of thousands of visitors have flocked to the exhibitions.

It’s becoming clear that people as human beings are at the centre of things in 2018 in Fotografiska Talent. At a time when voices questioning whether people are equal are becoming louder and louder, Talent focuses on the human being in all its forms. Examples are Ali Lorestani’s portrait of the Kurdish woman refusing to give up hope, Carla Lomakka’s kissing couple, Lina Scheynius’s woman in the water, Erik Gustafsson’s black-and-white portrait of a group hanging out on a couch in “This is farewell”, LouLou d’Aki’s portrait of different cultures occupying a small space...

"This year, 2018, will mark the fifth anniversary of Fotografiska's Autumn Salon and we're celebrating this milestone with a new take on this well-established competition, which is being developed together with the actual museum. Which is why in 2018 we're introducing Fotografiska Talent. An exhibition that will retain the core elements as a tribute to Sweden's photographers, both established and amateur, and all photography enthusiasts and residents of Sweden," explains Wiktoria Michalkiewicz exhibition producer at Fotografiska Stockholm.

Fotografiska Stockholm is not only the world’s most esteemed museum dedicated to the world of photography. The concept also contains an internationally awarded restaurant elected “the Museum Restaurant of the Year 2017”, as well as inspiring event spaces, an acclaimed academy and a shop featuring an extensive selection of photographic books. With a great network of world-class photographers at the core, Fotografiska Stockholm has since the opening hosted more than 170 exhibitions, including the work of iconic masters such as Annie Leibovitz, David LaChapelle, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Sarah Moon, Nick Brandt and Andres Serrano, as well as up-and-coming young photographers. By taking a stand in controversial issues and stretching their responsibility far beyond the realm of traditional art institutions, Fotografiska has a history of acting as an influencer, playing an active role in the Swedish society. The purpose is simple, to use the power of photography to unite, spread awareness and create positive impact. To inspire a more conscious world. Initially opened in Stockholm in 2010 the Fotografiska family is now growing and are expanding to Whitechapel in London and Park Avenue in New York. Taking on these prime locations Fotografiska aims to redefine the traditional museum experience by creating urban meeting places where global citizens are invited to dwell, get inspired, question the taken-for-granted and grow as individuals.
