Found Animals Foundation kicks-off its innovative summer cat campaign with a one-day “Adopt-A-Thon,” offering adoption discounts on kittens, cats, puppies, and more!

Los Angeles—With kitten season upon us, there is no better time to add a furry feline companion or two than at Found Animals Foundation’s largest-ever adoption event, which will launch the foundation’s summer cat initiative, aptly dubbed “Cat Days of Summer.”

The one-day Adopt-A-Thon, being held on Saturday, June 18, will take place at 16 Los Angeles animal care centers simultaneously. The event aims to promote countywide adoptions of kittens, cats, dogs, and other companion animals, to raise awareness of the plight of cats in animal care facilities heightened during “kitten season,” and to encourage the spay/neutering of all pets.

The Adopt-A-Thon will offer significantly reduced adoption fees on all kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs, and will unveil the ambitious “2 For You” feline promotion – where those adopting two cats together will pay only one adoption fee. Found Animals Foundation will cover the adoption fee of the second cat. This promotion will launch on the event day and run continuously thereafter at all participating locations.

“We are so excited to launch an innovative and comprehensive summer campaign to benefit kittens and cats. Not only are we committed to
placing thousands of adoptable kittens, cats, and other companion animals in loving homes, and facilitating thousands of spay and neuter surgeries, but also to bring much needed awareness to the sad plight of homeless cats in our community,” said Aimee Gilbreath, Executive Director of Found Animals.

“The problem of homeless pets and shelter euthanasia is absolutely a solvable issue, and everyone can help. Please spay or neuter your existing pet, adopt your next pet, and provide proper identification for all of your pets,” added Gilbreath.

This year’s Adopt-A-Thon is slated to reach a target adoption number of 500, up from 400 at the foundation’s previous holiday adoption event. By campaign’s end, at the onset of fall, Cat Days of Summer hopes to have helped a total of 6,000 catsand kittens through adoption and spay/neuter promotions. This would catapult the Foundation into being the force behind one of the largest cat initiatives to date.

Adoption fees for kittens, cats, and other companion animals at the Adopt-A-Thon will include: spaying or neutering, a microchip, and all major age-appropriate vaccinations.

The event will run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at all 16 partner animal care centers, including facilities operated by the city of Los Angeles Animal Care Centers (LAAS), the county of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC), Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA), and Burbank Animal Shelter.

Two of the featured Adopt-A-Thon locations are operated and run by Found Animals Foundation: The Cat Adoption Center (CAC) at SEAACA and the pioneering Adopt & Shop retail space at Lakewood Center Mall. CAC recently celebrated its 500th cat adoption since opening its doors to the public in March 2010. Adopt & Shop has facilitated over 100 adoptions in its first six weeks of operation.

Cat Days of Summer

Cat Days of Summer is an extensive Found Animals Foundation campaign of adoption events, promotions, education and sterilization initiatives that will run throughout the summer months, when local animal care facilities are flooded with thousands of homeless kittens in need of adoption. The campaign aims to help 6,000 kittens and cats by the close of summer through adoption and spay/neuter promotions.

The following initiatives comprise the campaign:

  • June 1-September 30

Cat Spay & Neuter Promotion: Found Animals will donate $150,000 to Clinico, a low-cost spay and neuter organization, as part of a promotion to help sterilize cats. Neutering male cats will cost $15, and spaying female cats will cost $25 with no income qualification required. The discount launched on June 1 and will run through September or until 3,000 cats have been spay or neutered.

  • June 18

Adopt-a-Thon: The largest-ever Adopt-a-Thon event, taking place for one day at 16 simultaneous locations. The event will focus on cats and kittens but other animals will be available for adoption. All animal adoption fees will be discounted on this day only at all partner facilities. For all participating locations, visit: www.foundanimals.org/AdoptAThon.

  • June 18-Ongoing

“2 for You” Promotion: Re-launching the foundation’s popular 2nd cat promotion, dubbed “2 for You,” where two cats can be adopted for the price of one. Found Animals will cover the adoption fees for the second feline, promoting the fact that cats do better in pairs. The goal is to adopt out 1,500 pairs by the end of the summer.
