FRAIKIN ENSURES THE FORS IS WITH ENCON INSULATION
6 March 2014
Commercial vehicle services firm Fraikin has renewed its long-running contract with Encon Insulation, ensuring the nationwide distributor of insulation and interior building systems’ vehicles will join the elite firms recognised by the Transport for London Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).
Under a new seven year full service contract hire agreement, Fraikin is delivering 36 commercial vehicles to Encon, including 26 new 26-tonne DAF CFs, nine new 32-tonne DAF CFs, and a 7.5 tonne DAF LF, all of which are fitted with a host of aftermarket extras allowing the fleet to go above and beyond the minimum legal requirements. Supplied in the new dual branded livery of Encon Insulation and Nevill Long, the vehicles set the standard for the firm’s future fleet, and further enhance the Group’s accreditation to FORS.
Also included in the contract are 19 new specialist Hiab Moffett truck-mounted forklifts, which have been selected for their lighter weight, which optimises payload capacity, together with an ability to automatically mount/dismount from the vehicle in less than a minute.
Introduced by Transport for London (TfL) in 2008, FORS creates a single scheme for fleet operators to improve their safety, fuel efficiency and vehicle carbon footprint. With FORS increasingly being a prerequisite for delivering to major contractors, Fraikin’s legislative guidance and vehicular support has helped to put Encon firmly in the driving seat, and meet Encon’s own corporate safety and environmental objectives.
With safety as a key priority, particularly with regard to vulnerable road users such as cyclists, the new vehicles are fitted with close proximity sensors, cameras and Fresnel lenses, with plans to retrofit similar equipment on the additional Fraikin vehicles leased to Encon.
The new fleet also features a range of extra equipment, including safety harnesses, an improved load restraint system, portable access ladders and an advanced telematics system to increase vehicle efficiencies. Automated transmissions improve driver comfort, while a reinforced tree protection bar secured to the reinforced bulkhead reduces the risk of vehicle damage. Completing the package is an additional LED lighting system, which facilitates on-site deliveries.
Fraikin’s partnership with Encon dates back more than a quarter of a century to 1987. Barbara Sudlow, National Facilities Manager, Encon, says: “What differentiates Fraikin from other suppliers is that they are willing to listen, ready to develop solutions and understand our industry. We have enjoyed a close working relationship for many years and are delighted to continue working with a forward thinking market leader within the industry.”
Peter Backhouse, CEO of Fraikin, adds: “We work closely with Barbara and her team at every stage of the process, offering bespoke solutions to help them meet their customers’ requirements as well as guiding them through a myriad of legislation. Encon Insulation was a terrific customer for Fraikin to win 27 years ago, and we are extremely pleased to have successfully continued our deep partnership.”
