Motorcycle driving test examiners are set to benefit from new motorcycles supplied to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) by Fraikin.

Under the full service contract hire agreement, the largest commercial vehicle fleet services company in Europe will supply 39 BMW motorcycles and Yamaha scooters to DVSA centres across the country. Examiners are now able to ride on a variety of custom-specification BMW bikes, including the F800GT and C650GT, and the Yamaha T-MAX530cc. These bikes have been selected to enable DVSA motorcycle examiners to travel long distances between sites whilst carrying all the kit they need to conduct motorcycle tests.

Fraikin will take care of all servicing and maintenance work, as well as MoT testing, tyre supply and provide 24-hour breakdown assistance and recovery, meaning the DVSA can focus on its core operations while Fraikin handles all aspects of the vehicle management on its behalf.

The new motorcycles join the DVSA’s existing fleet of 165 and will allow the government agency to conduct a greater number of bike-to-bike assessments, the preferred option for most candidates and instructors alike.

The contract will be monitored according to a series of KPIs designed to minimise downtime and repair costs.

Paul Baldock, Fleet Manager, DVSA, says: “We need to provide as many test slots as possible, and we can’t allow technical faults or servicing downtime to impact on the service we give to candidates. Therefore, we needed a solution that minimises that downtime on a national basis. Fraikin’s support network means we can be sure we will have the vehicles we need, when we need them, and be able to provide a quality service to the general public at all times.”

Hugh Cole, Managing Director, Fraikin, says: “Fraikin has a long-established reputation for delivering quality contract hire solutions for the private and public sector alike. Although we are more traditionally associated with trucks, vans and plant, our vehicle expertise knows no limits and we’re delighted that Britain’s regulatory body for drivers recognises our strengths extend to vehicles riding on two wheels as well.”

The new motorcycles are to be distributed to key locations across the country and expected to cover 8,000 miles a year.
