Program Launched to Celebrate National Barbecue Month

Louisville, KY (April 24, 2012) – The National Barbecue Association is celebrating the month of May—National Barbecue Month—with an exciting new program launch. The NBBQA Pitmaster Apprentice Program offers aspiring talent a chance to experience the business of barbecue first hand and learn how to turn passion into profit.

Apprentices will participate in an immersion program at a successful barbecue restaurant under the guidance of a recognized pitmaster. While the process for making great barbecue will be covered, the program is designed to be much more than that. Mentors are charged with conveying the full operator experience to the apprentice. From dishwashing to bookkeeping, every aspect of running the business will be covered.

“National Barbecue Month celebrates the great American tradition of barbecue,” noted Jeff Allen, NBBQA Executive Director. “We designed the apprentice program to honor that legacy by encouraging more people to get involved in this rapidly growing food culture and business segment.””

This benefit is just one of the ways that NBBQA connects the many facets of the BBQ industry, from expert pit-masters and competitor to specialized vendors and backyard enthusiasts. Linking these groups as one “Family of BBQ” is central not only to NBBQA’s mission, but also the spirit of National Barbecue Month itself.
