Best of Bristol as Fulton Supplies New Boiler Package
When Imperial Tobacco was looking for a cost-effective solution to supply heating and hot water for its headquarters in Bristol, the project became a distinctly local affair for Fulton, a leading British manufacturer of steam, hot water and thermal fluid solutions.
As factory maintenance engineer Gary Withey explains: “The new skid-mounted steam boiler package was specified by our Bristol-based consulting engineers Hoarlea, built in Bristol by Fulton and installed by Spie Matthew Hall, also based in Bristol.”
Commenting on the new installation Gary says that although the old boiler house has been decommissioned and the factory demolished, the original offices remain and still feature the original steam coils and site services. It was therefore decided that a replacement steam boiler package was the cheapest solution for supplying domestic hot water and heating, rather than opting for a new hot water boiler, which would have required a completely new HVAC system for the offices.
The Fulton gas-fired, skid-mounted system contains two 60J boilers – to ensure duty backup for planned/unplanned maintenance procedures – and features all the necessary ancillaries to integrate with Imperial Tobacco’s HVAC services.
Commenting for Fulton, Carl Knight explains that Imperial Tobacco and its Bristol-based consulting engineers wanted to be sure that the manufacturer they chose for the project could also provide the backup they required, and decided that, being a nationally and internationally respected boiler manufacturer, Fulton was the obvious choice."
He adds that, thanks to Fulton’s knowledge of steam systems and because the new skid-mounted boiler system was connecting to existing site services, downtime during the switch was kept to a minimum.
Fulton has unrivalled experience of manufacturing fully-prefabricated plant rooms and skid-mounted systems that offer high levels of efficiency and reliability. The company’s comprehensive service includes initial design, application advice and total after sales support. Systems are CE marked, built in Britain and are available for electric, gas, oil and dual-fuel firing, with steam duties from 14 kg/h to 4787 kg/h F&A 100ºC.
Plant rooms and skid-mounted packages are also designed to be delivered to site and installed on prepared concrete bases. Final installation is simplified by connecting to termination points pre-installed by the customer or contractor, to ensure that the new boiler system matches existing site services.
Single or multiple skid-mounted systems based on Fulton’s Series J vertical boilers are available complete with all necessary ancillary plant for a range of applications. The boilers, which provide both proven reliability and performance, are covered by a five-year warranty on the pressure vessel.
High efficiency and fast recovery for steam-raising makes Fulton fully-prefabricated plant rooms and skid-mounted steam boiler systems suitable for large, medium or small plant installations.
