Press Announcement: 11th conference of Astana EXPO-2017 Future Energy Forum "International Economy and Policy in Environmental Protection"
The eleventh Astana EXPO-2017 Future Energy Forum conference is titled "International Economy and Policy in Environmental Protection". From 28-29 August 2017 it provides representatives of government, policy makers, and key industry players with a platform for constructive dialogue about global energy and the development of an equitable, cross-national energy market.
Meeting the global challenges of environmental protection and sustainable development is dependent upon robust political and economic partnerships. Policies and measures are needed that enable national development and provide support frameworks for meeting environmental and developmental goals.
The conference deals with the question how to formulate consistent and fair regulations for the interplay of politics, policies and economies. Topics are global problems and political aspects of globalisation, models and future scenarios, sustainable development strategies, interaction of international trade and green economy as well as energy market reforms.
Select speakers include:
- Prof Dr Mohan Munasinghe, Nobel Laureate for his work on climate change
- Peggy Liu, Chairperson of the Joint US-China Collaboration on Clean Energy (JUCCCE)
- Prof Dr Djoomart Otorbaev, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan
- Jill Duggan, Director of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group (CLG)
- Monika Griefahn, Co-Founder of Greenpeace Germany
In a moderated debate panellists James S. Marshall, Executive Vice President of Raven Ridge Resources, and Heinrich Wyes, Deputy Executive Director of the Central Asian Regional Environment Centre (CAREC), discuss how to reconcile the need for resources with environmental concerns in emerging economies.
Master of ceremonies is British writer and broadcaster Vivienne Parry. A scientist by training, she is best known for her many programmes on BBC Radio 4. Closing the conference, she offers key findings and presents the continuing work on the Astana EXPO-2017 Manifesto of Values and Principles.
