    FVB expands in the UK

    District heating is on the rise in the UK, and FVB UK is taking part in several large-scale projects. The goal is for ten times as much district heating compared to the current level to be installed by 2050. The main driving force for this growing market is the environmental benefits of district heating. The British heating market mainly consists of mainly heating homes individually with natural gas or oil, but stricter climate requirements are aimed at eliminating fossil fuel energy sources and switching to green alternatives, which is when district heating becomes interesting.

    Massive demand for cooling needed for new industry

    One of the biggest waves of industrialisation ever is washing over Sundsvall. Liquid Wind is going to produce e-methanol for shipping, a process that needs enormous amounts of cooling.     New technique fixes district heating leak

    When Navirum Energi was hit by a district heating leak under the railway in Örebro Sweden, the solution was to reline the pipe. This is a new technique for district heating pipes, and FVB coordinated the project.The leak began in the early autumn at an unknown location under the railway in the centre of Örebro, where there are a number of other pipes in the ground. “It wasn't just a matter of digging and repairing the pipe or laying new pipes.     FVB conducts a follow-up study on Europe's largest hot water reservoir

    In Västerås, Mälarenergi is building Europe’s largest hot water reservoir in a rock cavern. The reservoir will hold 300,000 cubic meters of water, which can cover the district heating requirements in the city for up to two weeks. FVB  has been commissioned by Energiforsk to conduct a technical follow-up of the reservoir.  The rock cavern was formerly an emergency reservoir for fuel oil but was shut down in 1985.     Barkarbystaden is the largest expansion area of the city of Stockholm. A former airport was converted into a modern district here. FVB is responsible for all district heating design. The work also includes moving the current transit line.     Sweden’s first district cooling plant was put into operation in Västerås in 1992. This is thanks to FVB employee Anders Rydåker bringing the technology with him from the US.     FVB designs district heating pipeline between Gävle and Sandviken

    FVB has won the competitive bidding for the design and design management in the collaborative project between Gävle Energi and Sandviken Energi. Two out of three sections have been assigned to FVB and the journey towards interconnecting Gävle and Sandviken’s district heating networks now begins.     Research heats a new district

    In the Swedish city Lund, Kraftringen is building one of the world largest low-temperature systems for district heating. Residual heat from the MAX IV research facility will supply all of the new Brunnshög district with heat.     Expanded cooperation with Mid Sweden University

    Mid Sweden University is expanding its cooperation with FVB. This means that even more students will be educated about what is happening in the energy sector. Since 2009, FVB has trained students in the Energy Engineering program in Energy Efficient HVAC and Building Energy Systems.
