The beautiful countryside around Freiburg is perfect for a range of outdoor activities, even in winter. You can enjoy the wintry season in all its glory away from the big, busy skiing regions. In and around Freiburg, there are not only thermal springs and baths but also medical beauty and day spas which can tailor their treatments to the individual wishes and requirements of their customers.

Winter adventures in a picture-postcard setting

The Schauinsland is Freiburg’s very own mountain right near the city and rises to an altitude of 1,284 metres. Take to the slopes, the cross-country skiing tracks, the snowshoe trail or one of the many hiking routes to discover the adventures awaiting in the winter wonderland.

Haldenköpfle is the closest ski region to Freiburg. As well as a practice lift for beginners, there are blue and red descents for skiers of all abilities. Haldenköpfle is also a treat for cross-country skiers. The connections to the Notschrei trail and the 100‑kilometre Schonach/Belchen trail start at the car park next to the ski lifts.

Throughout the snowy season, there are numerous ski and snowboard schools offering extensive training and lots of fun on the slopes.

Indulgent spa and sauna breaks

The Keidel thermal baths is a modern, airy complex that welcomes its guests in a peaceful Freiburg setting near the forest. On an area covering more than 6,000 square metres, there is a spa, a sauna complex, a gym and a health and beauty centre. The mineral water from the thermal springs bubbles up in various indoor and outdoor pools, including the 34°C adventure pool with massage jets and the 38°C spring pool. The sauna complex boasts nine different temperature-controlled sauna rooms and a Turkish steam room. The beauticians in the health and beauty centre pamper their guests with relaxation, hot stone and reflexology massages or even the famous Freiburg boost treatment.

The ‘Saunahaus Wellness pur’ is also an invitation to indulge in spa experiences. There is whole complex of saunas to suit all tastes set in a generous garden full of lovely foliage and a natural bathing pool. Whether indoors or outdoors, hot and Finnish at 90°C or in the gentle Bio Aroma Sauna at 60°C, the different themed sauna areas can meet a wide range of individual requirements. The Finnish ‘boat sauna’ with light treatment and an outdoor hot tub adds up to a wonderful sauna experience. The steam bath is a healthy relaxation experience in high air humidity, with various essential oils to stimulate the revitalisation of the airways. The whole thing is rounded off with a health and spa area with massages, pedicures and solaria.
