Getac is raising the standard of semi-rugged computing once again, with an upgrade to its versatile S400 notebook.  Enhanced features include speed, performance, security and sunlight readability.

The new laptop benefits from 3rd Generation Intel® Core processing, available in two options, including the powerful Intel Core i5-3320M vProProcessor.  Operating at 2.6 GHz (up to MAX 3.3 GHz using Intel Turbo Boost Technology), the S400 offers a 44% improvement in processing speed over the previous models.

The tough, efficient, notebook comes with an island-style splash-proof keyboard with individually isolated keys designed to reduce damage and will provide professionals in the field with fast, easy access to data, using lower than average power consumption, offering up to 11 hours of battery life.

The unit’s durable casing is built using Getac’s Kryptoshell™ and is strong enough to withstand a drop of 3 feet in operating conditions, whilst a new, improved thermal design ensures reliable, high performance computing across a range of temperatures from as low as -20°C up to a searing 60°C.

Fast peripheral connections with integrated USB 3.0 provide the new S400 the ability to download data 10 times faster than previous models.  IP5X certification and a MIL-STD-810G rating guarantee it will continue to perform efficiently even in dusty environments and the semi-rugged can withstand vibration, shock and drop to military standards.

“The S400 is a powerful, robust notebook with 4GB RAM (support up to 8 GB) and 500GB hard disk (HDD) and is ideal for those who need rapid access to data in challenging locations and conditions,” says Peter Molyneux, Getac’s UK President.  “Integrated RFID, contactless Smartcard and Fingerprint Reader also make it one of the most secure notebooks on the market today.”

Features such as Getac’s resistive-type, multi touch screen allow for gloved operation and an optional in-vehicle docking station together with vibration resistance, make the S400 the ideal solution to communications on the move.

The semi-rugged weighs in at just 2.9kg and includes RF pass-through to provide faster and more reliable data delivery in real time.  Field users benefit from communication and connectivity features built into the new device, including Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and WWAN, and high precision SiRFstarIVTM provides optimum GPS accuracy.

The S400 comes with outstanding visual computing with a 540% graphic performance gain over previous generation S400’s.

Getac’s QuadraClear™ technology combines screen brightness with anti-reflective technology and when working in sunlight the 14” screen can be configured to ensure readability at all times thanks to an 800nit display. When dealing with sensitive information special quick keys allow the machine to enter blackout or emergency mode, if required.

Optional Intel® vPro offers users the ability to optimise hardware-assisted security for maximum data protection whilst programmable hot keys can be customised for use as emergency or shortcut keys.

“Some of our customers work in incredibly tough locations and conditions and their requirements simply do not fit with a standard IT solution.  Getac offers a range of bespoke products, including the S400, which allows them to specify precisely what they need to get the job done, whatever their challenge,” Mr Molyneux concludes.

The S400 comes with a three year warranty as standard, but additional warranty and service packages are also available.
