GHP Specialty Care AB (publ) (“GHP”) has recruited key persons for the senior management team that will lead the hospitals which GHP has a management contract to run in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The CEO of the hospitals will be Barbro Fridén, who at present is the Head of Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

As part of GHP’s overall commitment of managing the hospitals in the UAE, the Company will amongst other things carry out extensive analyses of business operations and recruit the senior management-to-be. Both processes are proceeding according to plan and a number of key persons have now been appointed.

Barbro Fridén, who will be the CEO of the Hospital Group, is at present the Head of Sahlgrenska University Hospital and in addition has a background that includes the position of Division Manager at Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital in Stockholm. Barbro was named Manager of the Year by the Swedish business magazine Affärsvärlden in 2015.

“GHP is a health care provider that I have followed for a long time and I know that they have high ambitions regarding quality and innovation. So I couldn’t say no when this exciting challenge of spreading Swedish health care expertise turned up,” says Barbro Fridén.

“Barbro is a very skilled leader whose core values are very much in line with ours. We are therefore pleased that as CEO of Sheikh Khalifa Hospitals she has chosen to become part of GHP, and together with us she will lead the development of health care in Ajman”, says Daniel Öhman, CEO of GHP.

Susanne Ljungkvist has been appointed CFO. Susanne has previously been CFO of Karolinska University Hospital for 6 years. She has also had a number of other important roles, amongst other things as CFO of AstraZeneca for 5 years.

Thomas Wallén has been appointed Head of the Sheikh Khalifa General & Emergency Hospital. Thomas is a specialist in geriatrics and internal medicine and since 2011 he has been Head of Södra Älvsborg Hospital.

Erik Wassberg has been appointed as Head of Sheikh Khalifa Masfout Hospital. Erik is a thorax surgeon and joins us from Elisabeth Hospital in Uppsala, where he has been CEO since 2014.

Bengt Ternström and Salah Abusnana are also important members of senior management, with experience as CEO and CMO, respectively, at GHP’s diabetes centre. They have been instrumental in the development of both the diabetes centre and GHP in the region. Everyone in the senior management team will work full time in situ in Ajman. During the coming weeks, a few more people will be added to the senior management, so that there will be 11 people in all, including the Heads of the hospitals.

Business operations in the UAE are conducted in the GHP International business unit, of which Tobias Linebäck is the CEO.

“With these strong people in place in the senior management of Sheikh Khalifa Hospitals, we are in a very good position to develop and run high-quality health care, well grounded in the quality-based core values of Swedish health care. I very much look forward to working together with the hospitals’ senior management group in situ in the UAE,” says Tobias Linebäck.

“We are very proud of the skilled leaders, such as Björn Zoega, Max van Eijk and Rein Seensalu, that we have been able to attract over the past year. We are now adding a very competent senior management team for Sheikh Khalifa Hospitals. This demonstrates that our way of working, with the focus on “quality through specialisation”, resonates with many of those who want to be involved in developing health care,” says Daniel Öhman.

About GHP:
GHP is an internationally active health care provider that operates specialist clinics in a select number of diagnostic
areas through the application of a business model that is unique in the health care industry, where leading doctors become partners and shareholders. Each clinic specialises in a particular patient group, and this leads to increased efficiency and higher quality. This is the cornerstone of GHP’s business philosophy – “Quality through specialisation”. GHP shares are traded on the Small Cap list of Nasdaq Stockholm under the ticker symbol “GHP”.

About GHP International in UAE:
On 23 December 2015 GHP announced that in tough international competition the Group had won an extensive procurement process regarding the running of public health care in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The agreement runs for five years, with a possible extension of a further five years, and comprises the
managing and operating of Sheikh Khalifa Hospitals, which consist of two hospitals (which include emergency care, paediatric care, and maternal and obstetric care), and a diabetes centre which is currently operated by GHP. On 1 September, GHP will thus become the provider of all publicly managed hospital-based care in Ajman, with a catchment area of approximately 300,000 people. Today, this business operation is of the same magnitude as a major Swedish accident and emergency hospital, with the potential to become even larger.
