Eva Kosek, who works at GHP Stockholm Spine Center, has been appointed professor in clinical pain research at Karolinska Institutet. Eva will also continue to work with patients with pain issues at the clinic and to conduct a large part of her research at GHP Stockholm Spine Center.

Eva Kosek is a specialist in both rehabilitation medicine and pain relief. She has previously had combined duties, as she does clinical work at the GHP Stockholm Spine Center and runs several research projects, both at GHP Stockholm Spine Center and Karolinska Institutet (KI). The research concerns above all mechanisms in long-term pain in the musculoskeletal system, how pain is regulated and how genetic factors affect this regulation. Furthermore, several factors are studied which are of significance for the outcome of surgical treatment and training programmes.

Eva has now been appointed professor in clinical pain research at KI. This professorship is partly financed by GHP in collaboration with KI. Eva will also continue to run research projects and treat patients together with her colleagues at GHP Stockholm Spine Center. One of the goals of the research is to create a better understanding of different types of pain issues and thereby become even better at treating above all long-term pain issues.

“Combined duties are a great solution for me. Running research projects at GHP Stockholm Spine Center is incredibly effective thanks to interested and supportive colleagues, short decision paths and a business at the leading edge of spine issues,” says Eva Kosek, Professor at KI and senior consultant at GHP Stockholm Spine Center.

For GHP this is an opportunity to develop the kind of collaboration that is the future of health care in Stockholm. “We are very pleased about Eva’s appointment and our part in this research. Now that an increasingly large part of health care in Stockholm County Council is carried out outside public hospitals, we private care providers must take our responsibility for the functioning of research and education. Furthermore, Eva is conducting very exciting research, which hopefully will be of great benefit to patients with these kinds of pain issues,” says Daniel Öhman, CEO of GHP.
