Global Health Partner (GHP) has become a minority shareholder in Laastari Lähiklinikka by participating in a new share issue. After the share issue Laastari Lähiklinikka remains majority owned by management and private investors.

Laastari Lähiklinikka builds and operates retail clinics that are focused on treating common minor illnesses such as influenza, ear infections, urinary infections etc. at a much lower cost than traditional care providers. Retail clinics are primary care clinics located in shopping centers and pharmacies, close to peoples’ everyday life. All treatments given in Laastari Lähiklinikka’s retail clinics are based on the medical best practices and the national medical guidelines. The Finnish clinics currently operate in Kerava, Lahti and Helsinki.

As part of the investment, GHP’s CEO, Per Båtelson, will join the Laastari Lähiklinikka Board of Directors alongside, among others, Linda Hall Keller, the former CEO of MinuteClinic in US. The investment signals the companies’ joint commitment to reshaping healthcare delivery models as well as the joint commitment to the mission “Quality through specialisation”. Through its investment in Laastari Lähiklinikka GHP is also strengthening its presence in the Finnish healthcare market. On top of providing primary care patients with better access to convenient and high quality primary care, the retail clinic model of Laastari Lähiklinikka will also create a more efficient and customer-friendly way of handling pre- and post-operation follow-up visits for GHP patients.

With the new share issue, Laastari Lähiklinikka is taking the first step in expanding the new cost-efficient primary care model from Finland to other European countries, and reaching out for cooperation with larger healthcare payer groups, such as insurance companies and public sector healthcare financers. The investment also starts active cooperation between GHP and Laastari Lähiklinikka aimed at supporting each other’s efforts in establishing operations in new markets.
