Global Health Partner sells clinic in Prague
Global Health Partner (GHP) is selling all of its remaining holding in OB Klinika in Prague, the Czech Republic, to Progress Medical. The clinic is a leader in obesity surgery in the Czech Republic, but has had profitability issues after considerable price reductions in the market. “The sale is in line with GHP’s strategy of increasing focus on the Nordic market”, says Marianne Dicander Alexandersson, CEO for Global Health Partner.
OB Klinika conducts obesity surgery and was formed by GHP in 2009. The clinic is well situated in Prague and mainly serves patients publicly funded by national insurance companies. In January 2012 GHP sold half of its holding to a Czech healthcare investor, Progress Medical, which is now also acquiring GHP’s remaining shares in the clinic.
The clinic in Prague has been GHP’s only business in the Czech Republic and as part of an increased focus on the Group’s core holdings GHP has decided to divest the clinic. The clinic has considerable patient volumes in obesity surgery and metabolic diseases, but due to price reductions in the market, the clinic has had profitability issues for an extended period of time. The divestment gives rise to a small capital gain.
GHP runs specialist clinics, amongst other things in the following selected diagnostic areas: specialist dentistry, orthopaedics, spine surgery/spine care, obesity surgery and metabolic diseases, general surgery, gastroenterology and arrhythmia.
