As the summer gets into full swing, an exciting new ‘healthy’ ice cream is to be launched with a free give-away on Blackpool Promenade.

Local ice cream entrepreneur Nathan Heron’s popular ice cream concession on Blackpool’s famous South Pier will see the launch of a world first – Omega Ice Creams. ‘Blackpool is the world’s No.1 ice cream eating city.’ says Nathan, ‘And I love coming up with new ideas – and making a great summer treat like an ice cream healthier with a squeeze of Omega-3 sauce is a great idea!’ Nathan has teamed up with another local business, Healthy and Essential, based in Poulton-Le-Fylde to launch the Omega Ice Cream, saying ‘I knew Omega-3 was really healthy and particularly good for kids and it got me thinking! I'd read about Healthy and Essential and their new Omega-3 food, Taste. I got in touch, sampled the product on one of my ice creams, and realised it was a brilliant combination. And healthier than just eating an ice cream on its own.’ Nathan comments I’m going to give away 200 free Omega Ice Creams – and I’m predicting satisfied smiles, lots of interest and lengthy queues.’ Healthy and Essential boss Ramsay McLellan continues ‘We’ve tested the idea on kids, and they love it. They have no idea that the Taste we squeeze onto the ice cream is good for them, because it’s so delicious. The big surprise is, Taste is made from fish and flax oil, contains loads of Omega-3 and is really really good for you.’ The product, IdealOmega Taste is being marketed as a superfood designed to get more Omega-3 into people’s diets. Omega-3 has a whole host of benefits, like helping to maintain healthy hearts, minds and boost the immune system. However, children and adults alike find it delicious. On the importance of Omega-3, McLellan explains ‘We should all eat more oily fish, like salmon, mackerel, sardines, and more green leafy vegetables. But with our hectic lifestyles, that can often be difficult for many people. We see Taste as being part of a modern, healthy diet, and helping people to get all the nutrients they need to help live life to the full.’ One devotee, Barbara Dante who has tested Taste says, ‘It’s mad. The lemon zest flavour is made of fish oil, but it doesn’t taste fishy, or oily. Don’t know how they’ve done it, but it’s like eating a sweet burst of lemon meringue. And with an ice cream, it’s just fab!’ The launch will take place on Blackpool Promenade on 5th August from 5pm. Free omega ice creams will be available to the first 200 people on a first come, first served basis at Nathan’s Ice Cream Concession at the front of South Pier, Blackpool.
