Leading Wireless Phone Supplier Integrates GIPS NetEQ Technology to Supply Cutting Edge Products for Customers

San Francisco May 16, 2006 — Global IP Sound (GIPS), the leading provider of embedded voice-processing solutions for the Voice over IP (VoIP) market, today announced that RTX Telecom, one of the world's leading independent suppliers of wireless product development solutions, has incorporated GIPS NetEQ technology into the company’s newest wireless Internet DECT phone. GIPS will be demonstrating its technology at the Spring VON Europe 2006 Conference and Expo being held at the Stockholm International Fairs in Stockholm, Sweden, from May 15 to 18.
“In the European market in particular, IP-enabled DECT phones are becoming a key technology for many phone providers,” said Gary P. Hermansen, President and CEO of GIPS. “We are proud to be working with RTX as they create higher standards among telephone carriers and manufacturers, and enabling users to enjoy better features, functionality and voice quality from their VoIP products.”
GIPS NetEQ, an advanced jitter buffer and packet loss concealment module, dramatically improves sound quality and minimizes latency in IP telephony systems. The advanced speech processing software enables remarkable sound quality even in the face of inferior infrastructure by reducing jitter buffer delay by 30-80 ms compared to the best alternative solutions. This flexible, single ended solution is perfect for hardware manufacturers because it is easy to integrate, and only needs to be deployed on the receiving end to improve voice quality for the end user.
“We are heavily focused on taking Internet telephony a step further by creating new revenue generating services and web content for operators,” said Jens Toftgaard Petersen, vice president of RTX Telecom. “Sound quality is the critical component for the success of this strategy. GIPS has set the bar for the industry with its state-of-the-art handling of packet loss, making GIPS NetEQ the natural choice to meet our quality requirements.”
The RTX LAN Cordless DUALphone, which is based on DECT technology, is the first product to provide a combination of both voice and on-screen information. By incorporating NetEQ, the phone offers minimum interference and excellent voice quality. This next-generation wireless phone consists of a cordless DECT handset and a VoIP gateway that is easily connected to a router or a broadband connection. The phone offers a roaming range of up to 300 meters from the gateway, 12 hours of talk time and 12 days stand by time. The solution is based on the SIP v2 standard to ensure compatibility with other Internet communications standards. RTX will be offering the product for private branding as an ODM or OEM product.
