ESA and GomSpace sign 8.4 MSEK contract change notice for the GOMX-5 project
The European Space Agency (ESA) and GomSpace today signed a Contract Change Notice (CCN) valued at 8.9 MSEK for the GOMX-5 project.
The CCN augments the on-going contract signed in 2020 for detailed design and development to also cover launch and operations activities for the GOMX-5 satellite. Further, the CCN updates and consolidates the mission scope considering implementation delays caused by supply and resource constraints in previous years.
Lars Krogh Alminde, Co-founder and VP of Strategy & Business Development comments: ”Our GOMX series of missions are fundamental for GomSpace for demonstrating new products and capabilities in space for our current and prospective customers, so we are very happy that we can now move ahead with GOMX-5 implementation. GOMX-5 will be our first satellite to be developed and launched under the ESA Zero Debris approach and will help ensure that our platform customers can operate sustainably in space.”
The project is developed under the ESA GSTP programme. “We are grateful for our long-standing collaboration with ESA and in particular the GSTP office and the Cubesat Systems Unit; both for facilitating project implementation for the GOMX series, including supporting reshaping the GOMX5 baseline, but also as valuable sparring partner helping us to improve our technology and market relevance”, says Lars.
The remainder of the project will be implemented within 2 years from Denmark and Luxembourg and contribute 18.2 MSEK in cash payments in this period.
The satellite is planned to operate for 5 years after launch and will continuously be used as test-bed for software innovation and demonstrations accelerating GomSpace technical roadmap implementation and validating new features in space before being used on customer missions.
