Cairo, Egypt – September 24, 2014: Goodyear is set for its attempt to enter the record books with its sponsorship of the adventurer Rainer Zietlow and his World Record Drive from Nordkapp (Norway) to Cape Agulhas (South Africa).

The Cape-to-Cape team departed on Sunday September 21stfrom Nordkapp in their Volkswagen Touareg, fitted with Goodyear Wrangler tires.  On day three the Cape-to-Cape team crossed the Turkish border. At 6 a.m. and 21°C the team started a leg of several 1000 kilometers that would lead them via a Southeastern route across the Bosporus and through the Asian part of the country.

With the help from Volkswagen Turkey, the team was guided through heavy traffic to safely reach its destination. At 9pm the Volkswagen Touareg boarded an Antonov 74 plane to make the cross to Egypt and the African leg of their journey.

On the fourth day of the challenge the team is starting to become aware of its limits. Rainer and his team: “In just four days we’ve maneuvered through weather conditions ranging from subarctic snowy weather to subtropical Asian and African weather while juggling a grueling driving schedule amongst the team that has allowed us to drive 70 hours straight.”

The team is now pursuing its journey through Egypt.
