Goodyear coach tyres’ load capacity meets new EU weight proposals
An increase to 19 tonnes for passenger service vehicles makes Goodyear Coach tyres the ideal choice
The load capacity of the Goodyear Marathon Coach and Ultra Grip Coach tyres makes them ideally suited to meet proposed changes to EU vehicle weight limits for public service vehicles.
Due to an increase in the average weight of passengers and their luggage and the EU’s desire for more efficient transport and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, the Commission is proposing to increase the permitted weight limit of two-axle passenger service vehicles from 18 to 19 tonnes[1]. While precise details of the proposals have yet to be defined, this allows a 7.5 tonne front axle weight in combination with an 11.5 tonne drive axle. The 295/80R22.5 and the 315/80R22.5 sizes of Goodyear Marathon Coach all position tyres and Ultra Grip Coach winter drive tyres have load indices of 154 and 156 respectively, representing 3750 kg and 4000 kg tyre load carrying capacity. The fitment of Goodyear Marathon Coach tyres on the front axle meets the 7.5 tonne axle weight requirement, which could come into effect in 2018.
“The EU proposals will be important to the coach industry, enabling the optimisation of vehicles,” said Adam Stanton, Commercial Product Marketing Manager, Goodyear Dunlop. “Our Goodyear Coach tyres are the ideal choice for these vehicles, thus offering not only excellent weight capacity but also very good mileage thanks to the new design, which among other benefits reduces shoulder wear.”
Goodyear Coach Range
Goodyear Marathon Coach and Ultra Grip Coach both feature TravelMax technologies including Silefex tread compound, an asymmetric design and latest carcass designs. The new designs reflect the requirements of modern coach designs and the sophisticated independent suspensions featured on most current top-line vehicles.
The Marathon Coach is an all position tyre for year-round use. Its unique asymmetric design offers excellent even wear and mileage with a high comfort level. This design, which Goodyear developed specifically for the Marathon Coach tyre, addresses the problem of uneven tyre wear and is the first such dedicated tread pattern for coach tyres.
The Ultra Grip Coach is a specific winter drive tyre with enhanced snow traction and meets the requirements for severe snow tyres. This tyre is ideal for vehicles operating in where icy roads are common and sudden snow falls can cause serious delays. The tread design and width give it not only excellent grip and traction in winter conditions but also low noise levels for enhanced customer comfort.
