Gränges company Sapa receives order worth SEK 250 million Sapa has received an order worth SEK 250 million for finished fabricated aluminium extrusions from the German customer Brose. The extrusion components will be used as seat mounting rails for the front seats in Mercedes and Saab cars. "Sapa Automotive has, together with the German company Brose, developed a totally new design for seat mounting rails with many advantages. For safety reasons, the demands are very high, since the rails are exposed to high pressure in case of a car crash. The rails are therefor produced in a high strength aluminium alloy, especially developed for this type of products. The rails made out of aluminium extrusions are also substantially lighter than rails made out of for example steel. Several functions can be integrated in an extrusion and has thus decreased the number of components. Thereby can the seat rails be assembled in a shorter time" says Kåre Wetterberg, Managing Director Sapa Sweden. Sapa Automotive has been succesful in developing and manufacturing aluminium components ready to install for a number of car models and has since several years a succesful partnership with Brose. Brose, with a turnover of DEM 2.2 billion, is a global supplier to the automotive industry. Except seat components the company supplies systems for window regulators and door modules. "The use of extruded aluminium grows steadily in the automotive industry thanks to the immense possibilities of design and the properties of the material. It saves weight, it is formable, resistant to corrosion and 100 percent recyclable - factors that are and will in the future be vital for the transport industry", continues Kåre Wetterberg.
