Grasshoppers Glasgow takes a major leap forward
New 'affordable luxury' hotel wins a string of corporate clients
1 August 2011
A sleek new hotel in the heart of Glasgow city centre is in demand from cost conscious business travellers and holidaymakers in search of an affordable luxury break.
The 30 bed Grasshoppers Glasgow boutique hotel offers modern luxury at affordable prices. And the new penthouse hotel is already proving a big hit with business travellers after securing a number of major corporate clients in its first few weeks. The hotel has also soared through the ranks of Tripadvisor after receiving a string of positive reviews from guests.
The hotel is located on the sixth floor of the historic Caledonian Chambers building, overlooking the city's busy Central Station, and is ideally situated close to Glasgow's fast growing International Financial Services District (IFSD), and just metres away from Glasgow's Buchanan Street, routinely voted the best shopping street outside London.
Over the past year, the top floor of the landmark Union Street building has been converted into a contemporary hotel at a cost of £1.25 million, in a joint collaboration between hotelier Barrie Munn and Network Rail.
With the accent on service, style and value, the new hotel is aimed at cost conscious corporate travellers who want to enjoy a touch of luxury without paying over the odds. Rooms are available from just £80 per night.
The Scandinavian style bedrooms feature Caledonian oak floors, ash laminate furniture, specially designed and made for Grasshoppers, handmade king size beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, and individually designed wallpapers and wood paneled walls.
All guests enjoy complimentary breakfast, and free wifi internet access, and each room features 32" slimline LED TVs with SKY HD, offering SKY Sports and SKY Movies.
The hotel has quickly attracted clients from across the business spectrum, including the media, engineering, energy and rail sectors, and aims to grow its corporate clientele with a range of services designed with the business traveller in mind, including free use of the hotel for business meetings and presentations, and a rewards scheme for regular business customers.
John Bird, founder of the Big Issue magazine, was one of the hotel's earliest guests. "Stayed at Grasshopper Hotel Glasgow. This is how hotels should be. Like your family," he tweeted after his stay. Guests have also been posting favourable reviews of the hotel on the tourism website Tripadvisor.
Hotel owner Barrie Munn said: "We are really delighted with the feedback we have received, particularly from our growing business clientele. We set out to provide a different kind of hotel, a home from home, where guests could enjoy all of the comforts and service of a luxury hotel, but with none of the stuffiness and with a real focus on delivering value for money. We’re confident that our combination of comfort, service and affordability will continue to prove popular with business travellers and holidaymakers alike."
