Fifth solar installation for Greenfood

Greenfood continues its commitment to renewable energy and solar cells. Now, the group's food and logistics center in Örebro is getting a solar installation that covers 90 percent of the facility's electricity consumption. The solar cells are expected to generate about 230,000 kWh of electricity per year and are anticipated to reduce CO2e emissions by 23 tons CO2e per year.

Greenfood is one of Northern Europe's leading players in healthy food. The group has expanded rapidly in recent years, driven by increased demand for sustainable and healthy food. As the group expands, Greenfood has also made substantial investments to reduce its carbon footprint. This has been done, among other things, by a major investment in renewable energy sources such as solar energy.

"We are now investing in another rooftop solar installation. This marks our fifth such installation and represents another major step towards achieving our ambitious targets to reduce our environmental impact in both Scope 1 and Scope 2. Our goal is to decrease our carbon footprint by 55 percent for every ton of food sold by 2025," said Lisa Isakson, Head of Sustainability at Greenfood.

In addition to the solar energy initiative, the group plans further measures to meet the scientifically based climate goals set by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and which are consistent with the UN's 1.5-degree target. This will be achieved through investments in, among other things, a more sustainable range and electric vehicles, both internally and in the logistics chain.

A Comprehensive Approach to Climate and Energy Issues Has Yielded Great Results
In 2022, Greenfood's climate impact per ton of food sold was a full 40 percent lower than in 2020. By taking a comprehensive approach to climate and energy issues, Greenfood has achieved a record reduction in emissions and is therefore well on the way to achieving the goals for reduced climate impact.

The reduction has primarily been achieved through investments in heat recovery and renewable energy. During the year, Greenfood's company car policy was also updated and will, after a phase-out period, only include electric cars. To facilitate the transition, 300 charging stations have been installed at Greenhouse, the group's new massive food and logistics facility in Helsingborg. The new facility will also be equipped with solar cells, and when the installation is complete, the solar park is expected to be one of the largest in Sweden.
