Fossil-free fuel in the tank – Salico and SydLog in a new transport partnership

Through a collaboration with SydLog AB, Salico has replaced fossil fuels in its transport operations with HV100, achieving nearly completely fossil-free outbound logistics within Sweden, without any increase in cost. For customers, this new partnership means better value in incoming goods and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions in the supply chain.

Since 1989, Salico has delivered ready-cut salads, fruits, and vegetables to the Scandinavian market. As part of Greenfood, one of the Nordic region's leading companies in healthy food, Salico shares the group’s ambitious sustainability goals, with transportation being a key focus area. Thanks to this new logistics partnership, Salico has made a fuel switch that is creating ripple effects across the industry.

A review of Salico’s transportation operations revealed that one of its raw material suppliers, SydGrönt, through its wholly-owned logistics company SydLog AB, shared a significant number of destinations for their transport routes. This led to a joint effort in combining transport operations. By having Salico's products transported in SydLog’s fossil-free trucks, Salico has taken another major step toward reducing emissions and creating a more climate-smart logistics chain.

“Thanks to this partnership, we have been able to optimize our transport operations while increasing vehicle load capacity. It’s a sustainability gain that our customers can also benefit from,” says Johan Wohlin, COO at Salico.

Although HV100-powered transport comes with higher costs, the collaboration and shared logistics have enabled Salico to maintain costs at current levels. SydLog AB is proud to support Salico in its journey toward a more sustainable future, with 90% of Salico’s domestic transports in Sweden becoming fossil-free as a result of this joint initiative.

“We are very pleased and grateful for the trust Salico has placed in us by choosing our fossil-free transport services. This partnership is a clear example of how companies can work together to contribute to a more sustainable future. We look forward to delivering Salico’s products with minimal climate impact,” says Fredrik Elensky, CEO of SydLog.

For several years, SydLog has invested in sustainable transport solutions and continuously works to reduce emissions and improve efficiency. SydLog’s fleet of fossil-free trucks is powered by biogas, HVO, and RME, as part of a strategy to offer customers climate-smart logistics solutions.

Johan Wohlin from Salico emphasizes that collaboration within the industry is a critical prerequisite for achieving the necessary sustainable investments. Patience is another:

“There might be dead ends along the way, but with persistence, we can always find a path forward. There are plenty of great solutions out there,” concludes Johan Wohlin from Salico.
