Greenfood's climate targets receive SBTi approval
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved the targets Greenfood set to limit global warming to 1.5°C in line with the Paris Agreement. Greenfood commits to reducing emissions from its operations (Scope 1 & 2) by 42% by 2030, with a base year of 2021, and reducing emissions in its value chain (Scope 3) by 52% by 2030, also using 2021 as the base year.
Greenfood has taken a significant step forward in its sustainability journey by receiving approval for its climate goals from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The SBTi serves as a global standard, guiding companies to establish climate targets rooted in science, aligned with the Paris Agreement's objectives. Greenfood has pledged to achieve the SBTi's most ambitious target: limiting global warming to below 1.5 degrees.
"The approval is a significant milestone in our journey towards an even more sustainable Greenfood. Together with our customers and suppliers, we aim for significantly lower CO2 emissions, thereby offering our customers and consumers even better opportunities to consume sustainable food," says Lisa Isakson, Head of Sustainability at Greenfood Group.
By setting these goals, Greenfood aims to reduce CO2e emissions per kg of food from an already low 0.52 to 0.23 CO2e per kg of food, using 2021 as the base year.
Greenfood's climate goals demand rigorous actions
To confront the climate crisis, stringent measures and ambitious climate objectives are required from all stakeholders across all levels and sectors of the business world. Greenfood has joined the Science Based Targets Initiative to further reinforce its commitment to sustainability and clearly outline the path towards more sustainable operations.
Extensive measures are planned and underway within the group's transportation and product range to achieve these targets. Additionally, Greenfood will increase investments in its operations, including installing solar panels on several of Greenfoods facilities.
Greenfood's goals:
• Greenfood will reduce emissions from its operations (Scope 1 & 2) by 42% by 2030 with a base year of 2021.
• Reduce emissions in its value chain (Scope 3) by 52% by 2030 with a base year of 2021.
With the approval of the goals, the group now meets one of the sustainability targets linked to Greenfood's sustainability-linked bond.
About the Science Based Targets initiative
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between CDP, the UN's Global Compact, World Resources Institute, and WWF. The initiative aims to assist companies in setting scientifically based climate goals in line with the Paris Agreement. Companies that sign up commit to establishing scientifically based targets for reducing emissions, in accordance with the Paris Agreement's objective to limit global warming to below 2 degrees and ideally no more than 1.5 degrees.
