The world's second Sky Jump "Ikaros" is opening at Gröna Lund
On Saturday, April 29th, Gröna Lund will open Ikaros, the world’s second Sky Jump. Standing 95 meters tall and tilting you more than 90 degrees before plummeting to the ground in 90 km/h, Ikaros will definitely be the scariest white-knuckle ride for the 134 year old waterfront amusement park in Stockholm.
Imagine sitting in a seat, with over-the-shoulder restraints, and your legs dangling high above the beautiful city of Stockholm. Suddenly, your chair is tilting more than 90 degrees, putting you in a totally horisontal position, facing the ground. Then comes the drop… On April 29th, when Gröna Lund opens the amusement park for the season of 2017, Ikaros will definitely challenge the courage of most visitors. Would you dare to experience the worst fall in history?
– I have pretty much experienced all that there is in an amusement park. So I can honestly say that this is one of the most terrifying drop towers in the world, but also one of the most exhilarating. The feeling of adrenalin pumping through your system as you fall towards the ground, is hard to beat. I would really recommend everyone who has the courage, to try Ikaros, says Johan Tidstrand, majority owner of Parks and Resorts Scandinavia.
Ikaros will become Gröna Lund’s 31st ride
A part from having the most roller coasters per square meter in the world, Gröna Lund is also the home to one of the tallest StarFlyers in the world (Eclipse) and the tallest Free Fall Tilt in Europe. On April 29th, this small but unique amusement park is proud to open the second Sky Jump in the world, as Ikaros will become the 31st ride at this 134 year old waterfront park in the middle of Stockholm.
Icarus arrogance became his fall
The name of this new Sky Jump is borrowed from the Greek mythology, where the master craftsman Daedalus, and his son Icarus attempted to escape their inprisonment from Minos, by constructing wings from feathers and wax. As he was flying towards his freedom, Icarus flew too close to the sun. The wax in his wings melted and he fell towards the ground. The top decoration of the drop tower will therefor consist of a golden sun, because the closer you get to the sun, the closer you get to the fall…
