The world’s first Mobility-as-a-Service company MaaS Global has received an international design award for its Whim mobile application. The winning app brings multiple transportation options together to make moving easier.

MaaS Global is pleased to announce that the company’s Whim app has been awarded the Good Design Award also known as G Mark. Operated by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion JIDP the award has been given to advocates of outstanding design since 1957.

The Whim mobile app brings all means of transport including train, bus, taxis, car-sharing and bikes under one subscription. With this all-in-one app users can both plan trips and purchase tickets.

– Instead of focusing just on the outward appearance, the role of designers has evolved to finding human-centered solutions to the complex and multifaceted challenges that society is facing. Design solutions that feel simple and effortless not only bring joy to people’s everyday lives, but they also act as a medium to shape positive behavior change. Receiving this distinguished award proves that we’re on the right path, says Apaar Tuli, the Head of Design at MaaS Global, says Apaar Tuli, Heaf of Designat MaaS Global.

The award is especially significant for that Whim was competing amongst more than 4,000 entries submitted by companies and designers this year.

Winners were chosen by distinguished design experts selected by JIPD from various industries. The main deciding factor is whether or not a product can bless and enrich society and people's lives through its design.

– This single app can be used for trains, taxis and shared bikes. The payment for fares and costs is settled through the app and it offers a subscription for residents and commuters. All-inclusive and seamless, this app completely eliminates the hassle of getting around, making a dream come true. We also admire the behind-the-scene story in which it took 10 years for the young engineer to put his idea into shape and fuel the MaaS platform that has become the standard in mobility, says the JIPD evaluation statement.
