Banbury drivers win £5,000 worth of parts and repairs
GSF Car Parts, Banbury has given away around £5,000 worth of free car parts and repairs to deserving owners following a competition.
Among the winners of the ‘Get Your Motor Running’ competition was 16-year-old Thomas Jordan of Sir Henry Jake Close, who won parts worth more than £850 for a Mazda MX5 that he’s working on, ahead of enrolling on a car restoration course later this year.
Thomas said: “I’m going to try and fit the parts myself, I want to teach myself so I’ll have a basic understanding for when I go to college but my step dad is there to help me if I need it.”
Thomas’s mother, Claire Jordan said: “Thomas really deserves this. He’s such a good boy and he worked hard to save his money to buy himself the car but has been struggling to get the parts for it.”
Entrants were asked to explain why they deserve to win free car parts and repairs, and the hundreds of entries included everything from song lyrics and poems to video animations.
GSF Car Parts Banbury Branch Manager, Jay Burgess said: “It’s a great feeling knowing that we’re able to help someone out and the Banbury team would like to congratulate everyone who won in this exciting competition.”
42-year-old Wakeboarding Coach, Kelvin Price won £1,500 worth of parts for his 1973 Volkswagen Beetle.
Mr Price said: “It was fantastic news to find out that we had won, it’s probably taken a couple of years off the project.”
£1,500 worth of parts and repairs was also allocated to James Butler of Woodford Halse who uses his Land Rover for 4x4 response work.
Mr Butler said: “I carry meals on wheels meals around when it snows so those in need can still be seen and have hot meals. It would be great to get the landy ready for the next batch of snow.”
46-year-old home support worker Vicky Andrews of Bodicote, who won repairs and servicing worth more than £200, said: “Our car had a complete service and they changed the oil, my husband was over the moon, it’s saved us a lot of money.”
Winning £300 worth of parts and repairs, 38-year-old computer programmer Matt Hildred of Stroud Close said: “We needed to sort out a few things on the car we just bought, so this came in handy.”
40-year-old vehicle technician, Steve Pearman of Withycombe Drive entered the competition because his car had a growing list of faults and won around £500 worth of free parts.
Mr Pearman said: “It’s our main family car and every so often it will just cut out on us.
“I’ve been spending money on it but winning these parts will be a big help.”
Jonny West, GSF Car Parts Managing Director, said: “With so many entrants, there were some tough decisions to be made but we would like to thank everyone for entering and congratulate our competition winners, all of whom are extremely deserving.”
