Cardiff car owners win £2,000 worth of car parts

Five lucky Cardiff motorists have won £2,000 worth of free car parts in a national competition by GSF Car Parts.

Craig Noble-Jones of Rhoose Point received £1,000-worth of parts to get his 1985 VWt25 campervan back on track after two years of “problematic ownership”.

Craig’s wife, Cara, was concerned the campervan – nicknamed Monty - wouldn’t be ready for the summer holidays.

“Since we bought the van, so far I’ve spent a lot of time on my back on the driveway underneath it in the damp, trying to remedy all of the issues”, said Craig. “£1,000 should certainly help, particularly to make it more cosmetically pleasing!”

The list of items he won included replacement brakes, shock absorbers and bumpers for the front and rear.

Craig hopes his passion for restoring classics will rub off on his six-year-old daughter and has promised her that when she’s 15 they will restore a VW Beetle.

Peter McKechnie of Llanharan has also won £250 worth of parts for his collection of classic VW Beetles he owns with his father.

As a lifelong hobby of his Dad’s, 21-year-old Peter can’t remember his family owning anything but Beetles.

He said: “My Dad works shifts so I often don’t see him much during the week.

“Restoring cars together gives us the chance to catch up with each other.

“I think we’ll be using the money on lots of service parts, as the MOT is due on two of our Beetles soon.”

Roger Tucker, 70, won £250 to spend on his Skoda Octavia 1.6 Turbo.

Now part-retired, Roger previously owned E T Tucker Garage on Severn Road in Cardiff.
