Elstock show how reman can be better than new
GSF Car Parts say Elstock’s involvement at their ongoing Area Focus events is informing garages on the benefits of remanufacturing.
Denmark-based Elstock, is part of BORG Automotive, one of Europe’s largest remanufacturing groups. Factories in Denmark, Poland, Belgium and Birmingham produce rotating electrics, steering, braking, A/C compressor and EGR valve ranges.
Elstock’s comprehensive remanufacturing approach contrasts with inferior repair-based approaches, which aim to find and replace only damaged items. Instead, components are replaced with OE parts as a matter of course, before every unit is tested against OE specifications.
Whilst matching OE levels is therefore ensured, Elstock say the popular 25-2463 Ford starter motor, which fits many year 2000 on Transit, Mondeo, Torneo, LTI TX2 and Jaguar X-Type models, demonstrates how remanufacturing can even improve the original product.
Noticing high failure rates, Elstock discovered metal dust particles, produced within the Dual-Mass Flywheel when the clutch wears or becomes overheated, were contaminating the pinion housing.
Elstock’s initial advice mirrored VM guidelines to thoroughly clean out the transmission bell housing and check the clutch for wear. This involved significant repairer time and complexity, leading to recommendations for expensive clutch replacements too.
Keen to improve this, Elstock quickly developed a new “dust-proof” starter motor. This innovation has been built in for over 5 years. The bushing was uprated to reduce sensitivity, with a dustproof ball-bearing incorporated too, totally preventing the problem.
