Peer-to-Peer Network Provides Helpful Tools Including Checklists, Video Demos, Webinars, and FAQs

Washington, DC—July 19, 2011—GuideStar—the leading source of nonprofit information—today announced the launch of GX Connects, a new, free tool for nonprofits that want to complete their GuideStar Exchange profiles and keep them updated. The GuideStar Exchange is a program that allows nonprofits to share up-to-date information with GuideStar's vast online audience, thereby providing a more complete and accurate picture of those nonprofits through photos, videos, and additional documentation. GuideStar Exchange members who complete all required fields display the GuideStar Exchange Seal, which has become synonymous with transparency and trust in the sector, on their public report pages on guidestar.org. GX Connects can be found online at http://gxconnects.ning.com/.

“GX Connects is a helpful resource for nonprofits that want to take advantage of everything the GuideStar Exchange has to offer, including a year’s free subscription to GuideStar Premium,” said José Fernández, GuideStar Exchange Director. “We know, however, that some people want tips and tricks for getting through the process more quickly, so we hope that this peer-to-peer platform will provide practical advice so nonprofits can effectively manage their time.”

GX Connects is particularly valuable for nonprofits that constantly struggle for funding sources, work on minimal budgets, or often don’t have the resources to market their missions effectively. People can use this online platform to learn firsthand the secrets that others have discovered when marketing their GuideStar Exchange Seals to potential funders as well as getting answers to common questions.

Becoming a GuideStar Exchange member is free of charge. To join, an organization needs to update its report page, completing all required fields for membership, including:

  • An independent audit of financial statements (organizations with total revenues greater than $1 million).
  • An independent review of financial statements (organizations with total revenues between $200,000 and $1 million).
  • A GuideStar Basic Financial Statement (organizations with revenues less than $200,000).
  • An independent audit of financial statements (community foundations with assets of $5 million or more).
  • An independent review of financial statements (community foundations with assets less than $5 million).

“We invite all nonprofits that want to share their information with prospective donors—from individuals to large foundations—to check out GX Connects,” added Fernández. “Not only can this resource help nonprofits get their GuideStar Exchange report completed faster but they might find a surprising hint or two that will help them leverage the Seal to key audiences.”
