Washington, D.C. – February 5, 2013 – GuideStar—the leading source of nonprofit information—today announced the addition of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation (the Foundation), based in Sacramento, Calif., as the 16th member of the GuideStar DonorEdge Learning Community (DELC), a group of highly engaged community foundations that use the GuideStar DonorEdge tool to collect data directly from the nonprofits in their communities.

The Foundation manages more than 500 funds, many of them permanent endowments, with total assets over $100 million. “The Sacramento Region Community Foundation has a proven philanthropic commitment to the Sacramento region,” said Lori Larson, senior director of GuideStar DonorEdge. “Our DELC members will benefit from the Foundation’s local knowledge and their 30 years of service to effective charitable giving. In return, GuideStar’s high-quality nonprofit information will help inform the Foundation’s local donors about charities in their area.”

GuideStar DonorEdge is a technology and knowledge platform that enables community foundations to encourage increased charitable giving and to promote awareness of local needs and issues to donors and the community. Community foundations use GuideStar DonorEdge to vet, share, and package nonprofit information in a variety of ways. GuideStar DonorEdge Learning Community members benefit by engaging in collaborative learning exchanges, including shared resources, materials, best practices, operational strategies, and an annual meeting, in addition to regular communication and collaboration.

The Foundation is the fourth California community foundation to join the DELC. Three other DELC members are in Florida, and 9 are located elsewhere in the United States. “Our community has an overall goal to raise the level of giving through our GiveLocalNow initiative. We know that DonorEdge will play a significant role in the initiative. We are pleased to be a part of this outstanding DonorEdge community focused on increasing effectiveness within the philanthropic sector,” said Ruth Blank, the Foundation’s CEO. “With GuideStar’s support, our contributors can be confident that they will receive the industry’s most trusted nonprofit information.”

“GuideStar DonorEdge helps community foundations transform data into knowledge for building nonprofit capacity and sustainability, driven by philanthropy,” said Larson. “We’re ecstatic that the Foundation has joined our ranks.”
