Drivers in Baldwin County Reminded of Cyclists Participating in Annual Bike MS: Tour de Beach Event
This weekend, drivers in Baldwin County will notice hundreds of cyclists who are moving because of a disease that stops people from moving.
GULF SHORES and ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – This weekend, drivers in Baldwin County will notice hundreds of cyclists who are moving because of a disease that stops people from moving.
“Multiple sclerosis stops people from moving but our organization exists to make sure it doesn’t, which is why fundraising events such as our event are so vital.” said Whitney Taylor of the Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Her organization along with the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission is hosting the 26thAnnual Bike MS: Tour de Beach cycling event, which is set for September 24 and 25. Hosted by the Hampton Inn & Suites in Orange Beach, proceeds from this two-day cycling fundraising event will benefit the Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
“Our Tour de Beach ride also features the Miracle Mile, which honors the late Dr. John Whitaker, a renowned MS neurologist and long-time Bike MS cyclist,” Taylor added. “What a great legacy that Dr Whitaker left as we continue to battle this unpredictable and often disabling disease of the central nervous system.”
More than 250 cyclists are expected to participate in Bike MS: Tour de Beach with a goal to raise $160,000. Funds raised will support direct services for the more than 6,500 people with MS and their families in Alabama and Mississippi as well as national MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system.
Cyclists will depart from the Hampton Inn & Suites at 7:30 a.m. on both days with a selection of 25, 45, and 75 mile options. Routes take cyclists through the local state park, intoPensacola, and even communities dotting theMobileBay.
A celebratory awards ceremony will be held at the Hampton Inn at 7 p.m. on Saturday night following the ride. All food and beverages for the program have been donated from local Gulf Coast businesses in an effort driven by EAT!, a localOrangeBeachrestaurant.
