Haldex AWD system introduced on Volvo S60 AWD Volvo Car Corporation launches the new S60 AWD with Haldex AWD system. Volvo S60 AWD is the first Volvo car with electronically controlled four- wheel-drive from Haldex. Since 1998, Haldex and Volvo have worked closely togethger to adapt Haldex AWD system to a new generation of four-wheel-drive cars within Volvo. The serial delivery contract was announced by Haldex in March 2000. Volvo has a strong position in the AWD segment. With the new Volvo S60 AWD, Volvo enters the AWD segment with a sporty sedan model. - "The introduction of AWD on Volvo S60 is not mainly to improve off-road driving, but to optimize the sporty sedan car's road holding and stability. Offering Volvo owners the best technology, that enhances safety, is an important part of Volvo's safety philosophy", says Lars Nilsson, project leader at Volvo Car Corporation. Haldex AWD system is connected to the car's Multiplex system and communicates via the CAN-bus on-line with other electronically controlled systems in order to continually optimize the four-wheel-drive system depending on the driving conditions. The controllability of the Haldex AWD system offers the unique possibility to the car manufacturer to participate in the design of the software in order to controlling the over- and under-steering tendencies. - "The Volvo contract means that Haldex AWD system now is being delivered to two of the world's five largest global car manufacturers, which confirms Haldex leading position and opens interesting future opportunities", says Ulf Ahlén, President of the Traction division within Haldex.
