Automatic Brake Adjusters is one pillar of Haldex’s worldwide business and have now surpassed the 70 million mark. Haldex begun the serial production of Automatic Brake Adjusters over four decades ago and today the company has a 60 percent share of the world market. Designed to withstand millions of brake applications, Haldex offers a wide range of technical versions of the Automatic Brake Adjuster. Every Automatic Brake Adjuster can be adapted to suit virtually all customer’s installation needs and is supplied for commercial vehicles as trucks, buses and trailers.

Bo Annvik, President and CEO of Haldex comments: “The success of the Automatic Brake Adjusters over the years demonstrates how important Haldex technology has been for the global safety on the roads. Haldex pursues continuous research and development in all aspects of brake technology to keep the best position to anticipate and meet customer’s demands even in the future.”

Automatic Brake Adjusters are based on the clearance principle, which is state-of-the-art, a principle based on an almost 100 year old breakthrough invention. In 1913, the Swedish railway engineer Axel Diurson was granted a patent for a ‘device for the automatic adjustment of brakes’, which was based on the clearance principle. This was the beginning of the end of manual adjustment of railway brakes, a time consuming operation performed by railway personnel. It was not until the late 1960s that the Automatic Brake Adjuster was introduced on road vehicles.

The Automatic Brake Adjuster has generated jobs for thousands over several decades and today the product is manufactured in Sweden, U.S., Brazil, India and China.
