Haldex wins a first larger disc brake order Pursuant a first smaller order in February 1999 for a few hundred units, Haldex has now received its first larger order for disc brakes on trailers. The order encompasses some 5,000 units with successive delivery suborders. The first deliveries will take place in march 1999. Haldex newly developed disc brake has been specified by the trailer manufacturer and the order was received from a larger European axle manufacturer. Since a few years, a technology shift is taking place in Europe whereby disc brakes are successively taking over from traditional drum brakes on heavy vehicles. Haldex has developed different disc brake variants for steer, drive and trailer axles. Haldex' compact and modular design has several advantages compared to competing disc brake alternatives. Disc brake deliveries normally encompass the complete wheel brake, including both adjuster mechanism and caliper, and have therefore a considerably greater value than Haldex' deliveries for drum brakes, which only include the adjuster mechanism. In spite of an increasing penetration of disc brakes in the European market, Haldex recorded a new all-time-high 1998 when over 3 million adjuster mechanisms for trum brakes were delivered globally, which is estimated to exceed the deliveries from all competitors combined. Haldex is a global supplier of proprietary products for trucks, cars and industrial vehicles, with special emphasis on performance & safety. The Group is listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and has yearly sales of 5 BSEK with 4,300 employees. The Group has sales companies in Europe, North & South America and Asia.
