Halverson Company Celebrates 100 Years in Business at 2014 GEAPS Exchange
Company milestone based on legacy established by four generations of Halverson leadership.
Omaha, NE – Halverson Company today announced that it has officially turned 100, a milestone few companies in the U.S. ever reach. To celebrate, the company is hosting an Anniversary event on the evening of Feb. 24 at the Hilton Hotel ballroom across from the GEAPS convention center. Halverson has invited the famous comedian mentalist, Sean Bott, to perform for guests and will provide food and drinks to say thank you to the industry that has supported the company for so long.
“When my great-grandfather set out to build a company that would last, I don’t know if he foresaw his posterity taking him at his word quite so literally,” said Steve Halverson, fourth generation owner and current CEO of Halverson Company. “I’m proud to become one of the oldest companies in America, a feat few companies every get to experience. I wish all my predecessors were here to share it with us.”
Since 1914, Halverson Company has been shaped by the character of the men who led it. The original company founder, John E. Halverson, was a gifted machinist who reconditioned metal rolls for flour and feed mills. He always stayed focused on meeting customer needs, and his customers rewarded him with business that helped him navigate the Great Depression and World War I.
John’s son, Lionel, inherited his father’s talent for machining, and took over his father’s business. Lionel was a tireless worker and expanded the business by introducing design and construction services for grain processing and storage facilities in the Intermountain West. As the economic climate of the post World War II era demanded more grain storage, Lionel’s design and construction business blossomed, and he built many of the large concrete grain storage facilities that still exist in the West.
John L. Halverson was mentored by his father, Lionel. It was John L. who added expertise in conveying, processing, and storage equipment to Halverson. His proficiency in products such as bucket elevators, screw conveyers, roller and hammer mills, and extruders and mixers for the food, feed, and fertilizer industries positioned him as an expert and helped him expand the design and construction business.
John’s son, Stephen, grew up next door to the family business and had many opportunities to work with both his father and grandfather at a young age. His father believed that he should learn the business from the ground up, so he began as a helper to steel fabricators and construction personnel. After completing his degree in business management, Steve moved into project management. In 2001, Stephen became the fourth generation to take the helm of the family business. He is recognized as an efficient and focused leader, completing projects that exceed expectations, while meeting short deadlines and tight budgets.
