- reinforces its position relative to international and Swedish competitors

Handelsbanken Capital Markets has reinforced its position as Sweden's leading investment bank and adviser in the field of M&A. A review by British Mergermarket, M&A ranking, reports that Handelsbanken Capital Markets has risen to the position of market leader for the period 1 January 2003 to 31 August 2004. Based on the total transaction value for announced deals, Handelsbanken Capital Markets is number one followed by Deutsche Bank, Swedbank Markets and Goldman Sachs.

"We are delighted to see that we are keeping the big international investment banks behind us", says Mikael Ericson, head of Handelsbanken Capital Markets. "I see this as confirmation that our ambition to be a full-range, innovative, modern investment bank which can compete globally for customers with Nordic requirements is just right", continues Mikael Ericson. "Our success is due to a perfect combination of factors: staff with long experience, a number of vital new recruitings and close collaboration with the Bank's branches", concludes Mikael Ericson.

Handelsbanken Capital Markets is the only full-range investment bank in the Nordic countries specialising in Nordic conditions and companies. It has 500 employees in seven countries. Handelsbanken Capital Markets is an integral part of Handelsbanken, which has 579 branches in 19 countries with some 9,000 employees. Total assets for 2003 were some SEK 1,300 billion and profits were SEK 11.6 billion.
