Handelsbanken included in the Sustainability Yearbook 2022
For the sixth consecutive year, Handelsbanken has been included in the SAM Sustainability Yearbook. The inclusion confirms that we are among the most sustainable banks in the world.
Being included in the SAM Sustainability Yearbook means that Handelsbanken is in the top 15 per cent of the world’s banks, in terms of our sustainability rating.
"We work continuously with sustainability throughout the bank and it is gratifying to have this work validated in such a way. Particularly in the form of such a comprehensive survey, conducted from a global perspective, in which we are being evaluated and compared in an international context. Not only that, but more companies than ever were analysed in this year’s survey", says Philip Gudinge, sustainability analyst at Group Sustainability.
Sustainability goals
There is an increasing focus on sustainability in the financial industry, and in 2021 Handelsbanken set a number of ambitious sustainability goals. By setting goals, the bank defines and clarifies its sustainability work, externally as well as internally, and also enables ongoing assessment of how our sustainability work is progressing.
"Given the increased expectations from the bank’s customers, employees, investors and other stakeholders regarding sustainability, we are very pleased to once again be included in the SAM Sustainability Yearbook. However, we are aware, that both we and other corporations, need to do more. Therefore, we continue to develop and expand our sustainability efforts, supporting our customers and communicating the values we stand for and what we can offer", says Catharina Belfrage Sahlstrand, Head of sustainability, Handelsbanken.

Over 7,500 companies were included in the analysis underpinning the SAM Sustainability Yearbook this year. The evaluation is based on several financial, environmental and social sustainability criteria, from which each company receives a total sustainability score between 0 and 100, resulting in a ranking of all companies in the same sector. Handelsbanken’s total score was 69.
