Handelsbanken Liv signs up to the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance

Handelsbanken Liv has signed the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI). The principles is the largest initiative for international co-operation between the UN and the insurance industry. The PSI consists of four principles which aim to boost economic, environmental and social sustainability.

“We want to see Handelsbanken Liv’s assets contribute to a better future – for coming generations and for our planet. PSI gives us a solid international platform from which to further strengthen our sustainability work, with the opportunity to exercise our influence as asset owners and cooperate with the UN,” says Martin Björgell, Head of Product at Handelsbanken Liv.

Under the framework, Handelsbanken Liv commits to follow the four principles involving the integration of sustainability into business decisions and the transparent reporting of results to customers and other stakeholders.

“Swedish insurance and occupational pension companies have worked for a long time with responsible and sustainable investments. As major asset owners and as investors, we have a significant responsibility – but also an opportunity – to play an important role in shifting finance towards a more responsible and sustainable development of society,” says Martin Björgell.

Other sustainability initiatives
The Handelsbanken Group participates in numerous international initiatives that aim to demonstrate our position and strategies within sustainability. For example, Handelsbanken Fonder has signed the UN Principles for Sustainable Investments (PRI), while at Group level, Handelsbanken has signed the UN Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB).
