Handelsbanken is expanding its operations to the Baltic countries and will be opening a branch in Tallinn in spring 2006. The branch will follow the universal bank concept and offer banking services to both private individuals and companies.

Harri Tuohimaa has been appointed manager of the branch operations in Estonia. Harri Tuohimaa has been chief executive of Handelsbanken Rahoitus in Finland since 1999.

"Since our customers have more and more contact with this region, particularly Estonia, it is important for us to have a presence in the region," says Harri Tuohimaa. "We want to make decisions close the customer and believe that our operations will be as successful in Estonia as in other markets which are subject to tough competition where our model has proved to be successful."

The Tallinn branch will report to Handelsbanken's Regional Bank Finland where Petri Hatakka is head of the regional bank.
