Handelsbanken signs up to the UN Principles for Responsible Banking

The Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) were launched at the UN Climate Action Summit 2019, held on 22-23 September. Handelsbanken is one of 130 banks to sign up to the initiative.

With PRB, the UN aims to raise awareness of and highlight the contributions to sustainable development being made by the global banking sector. The principles are also intended to emphasise the necessity that the financial sector is governed in line with the Paris Agreement and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. PRB supplement the existing Principles for Responsible Investment, PRI, which Handelsbanken signed in 2009.

Sustainability has long been a natural part of Handelsbanken’s business operations. Our greatest opportunity to contribute to sustainable development is through our business operations, when we finance our customers’ projects and businesses and are entrusted to manage their assets.
