The School of Business, Economics and Law appointed as role model in UN-supported sustainability initiative
The School of Business, Economics and Law at Gothenburg University has been appointed member of an international group that will work together for two years to develop business education and support initiatives that promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in the UN's Agenda 2030.
The programme “PRME Champions 2020-2021” is organised by the UN initiative Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). Education in business and leadership plays an important role in providing the next generation of leaders with knowledge and tools to help achieve the global goals of the UN Agenda 2030. Many business schools are actively working on this, but much work remains. As “PRME Champions”, the participating schools will jointly develop ideas for how education at business schools can be developed to better contribute to society meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.
“We are proud to have been chosen to be a PRME Champion 2020-2021. It is a confirmation of the work we have done to effectively integrate sustainability perspectives into our operations. It also gives us a great possibility to develop further in close cooperation with other strong forward-looking business schools in thought and action leadership, furthering the fulfilment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals”, says Per Cramér, Dean of the School of Business, Economics and Law.
The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg has a long experience of working with sustainability. Since 2013, sustainability has been integrated into all programmes at the bachelor’s level. At the School, there are research related to all of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Agenda 2030, and within some goals the research is particularly extensive, such as Decent Work and Economic Growth (goal 8), Sustainable Cities and Communities (goal 11), Responsible Consumption and Production (goal 12) and Climate Action (goal 13).
About PRME Champions 2020-2021
This is the 4th cycle of the programme. 37 business schools from different parts of the world participate and will share knowledge, learn from each other and develop new ideas on how integration of sustainability can take place. The results will complement the "Blueprint for SDG Integration in Business Schools" developed in previous cycles of "PRME Champions" (the first version of the document will be published in April 2020).
