Paris Motor Show 2014: HARMAN infotainment leadership across the industry
With automakers across the industry choosing HARMAN for advanced in-car infotainment, visitors to the Paris Motor Show 2014 will encounter HARMAN everywhere.
Paris, October 2nd 2014 – An encounter with HARMAN, the premium global audio and infotainment group, is on the cards for every visitor to this year’s Paris Motor Show from October 4 to 19. With more automakers than ever choosing HARMAN‘s advanced technology and solutions for the increasingly sophisticated on-board infotainment in their vehicles, a tour of the auto show will include numerous encounters with HARMAN infotainment systems.

Fiat Group – Jeep Renegade, 500X, 458 Speciale Spider
The 2014 Paris Motor Show is the world premiere appearance of Fiat’s new 500X, and the French premiere of the Jeep Renegade, both of which feature the award-winning UConnect infotainment system by HARMAN. Drivers have access to an array of easy-to-use features to help them stay connected, informed and focused on driving. This new system offers total speech control – with hands-free calling and one-shot commands to enter navigation instructions – plus full featured navigation with 3D city models, landmarks and enhanced digital terrain models. Uconnect also powers the Connected Media Center in numerous 2014 Chrysler and FIAT cars, trucks and SUVs, such as the Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, as well as the current Viper sports car.
Also premiering in Paris is the 458 Speciale Spider, which includes the CMC infotainment system by HARMAN. The system is controlled via the Infotainment Control panel (ICP) and linked to the cluster display. Moreover it offers vast entertainment options, such as Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, a Wifi Hotspot or iPod interface.
Toyota
HARMAN provides enhanced navigation and connected services as an add-on module for the innovative Touch2 with Go+ infotainment system on board the new-generation Toyota Yaris Hybrid, which Toyota is unveiling in Paris this year. With features including real-time traffic updates,3D navigation and emergency call assistance, the new “Go” module is designed to make journeys safer, smoother and more enjoyable. Advanced Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, USB and iPod linkups, as well as Mirror Link to integrate smartphones with the on-board system, offer drivers and occupants a full range of entertainment options. Additional safety features such as a rearview camera make for safe and stress-free parking.
BMW
BMW promises an exciting show this year in Paris, with numerous vehicles making their world premiere or debut appearance in France. The new BMW 2Series Convertible, BMW X6, BMW 2Series Active Tourer and the BMW i8, all feature premium infotainment systems by HARMAN. With over-the-air navigation data updates – new in the latest generation of the Navigation system Professional – drivers can be certain route guidance stays accurate. Real-time traffic information makes for smarter, safer navigation, and the dynamic range map in the BMW i8 tells drivers how far the car can travel in any direction. The system is fully voice-controlled, enabling drivers to keep their hands on the wheel, and the head-up display keeps eyes on the road ahead. The high-resolution 10.2-inch screen offers split-screen functionality for a clear view of infotainment options.
BMW – MINI
Also on show in Paris from the BMW Group portfolio is the new MINI 5doors, which features a head-up display and an infotainment unit by HARMAN. The MINI enjoys the same infotainment system already available for BMW models, packing a rich infotainment experience into a small interior. The system offers a three line color display as standard, with an optional 8.8-inch color display also available. With enhanced Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 3D navigation and voice control, MINI drivers and passengers can look forward to an integrated infotainment experience. For added safety, there is a rearview camera and driver assist features, including collision and pedestrian warnings and the ability to detect road signs ahead. Thanks to the permanently installed SIM card, drivers have instant access to MINI teleservices whenever they need, and the system also enables e call, which is being activated automatically in case of an accident.
Daimler
HARMAN delivers the NTG5 infotainment system to the latest Mercedes C-Class, the Estate version of which is on show in Paris. The unit combines wireless connectivity with HARMAN’s enhanced navigation functionality (including digital terrain functionality) and an 8.4-inch high-resolution display in 16:9 format to both simplify and enhance the user experience. Featuring a touchpad for even more convenient access to entertainment and navigation, the NTG5 delivers state-of-the-art wired and wireless mobile device integration, including a WiFi hotspot in the head unit, plus the ability to hook up iOS and Android devices via USB or Bluetooth. The system also comes with an integrated HDD, DVD player, USB and Aux-in for media management plus Message Access Profile (MAP) for mobile office features such as e-mail and text messaging as well as car-related assistance and services including emergency calling. DAB- and TV tuner are optional features. The same system is also available on other C-Class and V-Class cars as well as the S-Class with even more functionalities.
Audi
Audi is unveiling the new A6, A6 Avant and A7 Sportsback in Paris, all of which include the HARMAN MIB high 2 infotainment system. With Audi ranking best in class for connectivity features in a 2014 reader survey by auto motor und sport and CHIP magazines in Germany, this is impressive evidence of HARMAN’s leadership in connected-car technology. Seamless online connectivity through UTMS and LTE (4G standard) enables drivers to stay in touch while they are on the road. The system uses 3D city models, enhanced digital terrain models and the 8-inch TFT display ensures clear presentation of entertainment options or route guidance. Navigation and other functions can be fully voice-controlled for a smoother and safer driving experience. The Audi TT3 and the Audi TT Roadster, which are making their first appearance in France at the 2014 Motor Show, also feature the same on-board infotainment system by HARMAN with a more spacious 12.3-inch display, integrated into the fully digital instrument cluster.
Porsche
HARMAN infotainment is on board the updated version of the Porsche Cayenne, which is making its global debut appearance in Paris. With a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen, integrated HDD, USB, Aux port, DVD player and DAB tuner, the latest Cayenne has a rich choice of infotainment options on board. All the functions – not just navigation – can now be voice controlled, and a choice of apps (everything from weather to news and social media) plus integrated e-mail keep occupants both entertained and informed throughout the journey. Navigation is HDD-based, with 3D city models and landmarks, as well as an Enhanced Digital Terrain Model to provide a near-reality view of the environment.
VW – 2015 VW Passat, VW Passat Variant
Drivers of the new 2015 VW Passat and VW Passat Variant – both making their world premiere appearance in Paris – can look forward to a superb on-board infotainment experience by HARMAN. The new Passat is the first VW car to feature the HARMAN MIB2 infotainment system which is already available on the VW Group’s Audi cars. The MIB2 infotainment system in the Passat features a spacious 12.3-inch central screen, with voice control now also available for reading out and dictating text messages. Having chosen the Premium option, drivers can also add the in-car GSM/UMTS unit, with a slot for an additional SIM card and WiFi hotspot. With excellent connectivity to aid navigation and route guidance – such as RTTI and Google Street View – the infotainment system helps to make journeys as safe and enjoyable as possible.
Jaguar Land Rover
The new Discovery Sport and XE – both making their first-ever global appearance in Paris – are the first vehicles by Jaguar Land Rover since their merger to feature a head unit by HARMAN. The new InControl infotainment system is clear, intuitive, quick and easy to access and uses voice-control with plain speech across a range of its functions including navigation, media and phone calls. Its powerful navigation is enriched with 3D content including 3D landmarks and cities, millions of useful POIs and offroad-specific functions (vehicle dependent): these all operate alongside an array of advanced features such as route alternatives, lane-guidance, road name announcement and traffic events read out. As well as providing a full media experience with radio, (FM/AM/DAB/HD), USB, AUX, SD, Bluetooth audio, video and image player, the system integrates a range of “connected car” and hosted features through JLR’s “InControl” system, including apps, WiFi and remote management of vehicle features.
