HARMAN Exhibits Latest Connected Car Innovations and Solutions at IAA 2015
IAA 2015, FRANKFURT – HARMAN International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE:HAR), the premier connected technologies company for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, will demonstrate its latest innovative connected car technologies and concepts at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany.

At IAA 2015, HARMAN will showcase its industry-leading expertise in connected solutions, including its latest infotainment solutions and concept car, to underscore the importance of connectivity, security and safety in the car.
HARMAN Demos 5+1 Layer Security Framework
Infotainment systems are gradually becoming more connected to the external world with enabled features like cloud connected services, downloadable apps, integration with personal devices of the consumers (phones/ wearables), vehicle data analytics and communications with other vehicles. HARMAN will demo its 5+1 layer security framework at IAA to display how HARMAN is tackling the most challenging security vulnerabilities faced in today’s automotive industry. HARMAN’s unique “defense-in-depth” security model changes the way OEMs secure the connected car.
The key elements that make up the 5 +1 framework are:
- OS Access Control – policy-driven secure control of access to memory, storage and peripherals
- Securing the Hardware Platform – used to provide secure storage for Digital Certificates, Cryptographic keys, User PINS and passwords and any other project specific sensitive data
- Hypervisor – isolation between execution domains
- Application Sandboxing – resource isolation between applications
- Network Protection – secure communications for internal networks and external world
- OTA Updateability – a crucial component responsible for installation of security-related updates and guards against security flaws detected in the field
Featured at IAA: HARMAN’s Next Generation Scalable Infotainment Platform
HARMAN’s advanced next generation scalable infotainment platform also makes an appearance on the IAA show floor this year. HARMAN will demonstrate this industry-first infotainment offering supported by a fully open standards-based system with an HTML5-based application environment. It challenges the industry security standard with its enhanced hyper-visor based domain separation and also embeds technology for advanced driver assist functions such as Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning.
HARMAN Delivers Infotainment Systems to New BMW 7-Series and Volkswagen Tiguan Vehicles
HARMAN announces new contract awards with BMW and Volkswagen to provide HARMAN’s infotainment systems in the new 7-Series and Tiguan vehicles, respectively. HARMAN has delivered a number of industry firsts in the new BMW 7 Series including automatic over-the-air (OTA) quarterly map downloads, personalized routes, together with richer ‘Micro City’ detailed building graphics and comprehensive data including the width of roads. The result is a more engaging customer experience that offers more functionality while retaining the ease of use required for safer driving. In addition to its own infotainment technology, HARMAN worked closely with partners to integrate further enhancements to the user experience in the 7-series. With input from HARMAN, features such as gesture recognition, NFC to improve Bluetooth pairing and the ability to recognize dialects are integrated seamlessly into the system. Additionally, the Volkswagen Tiguan will be equipped with MIB2 High infotainment systems and is the latest vehicle model to join the existing portfolio of Volkswagen vehicles equipped with HARMAN’s infotainment systems.
Rinspeed Budii, the “Trans-Urban” Concept SUV, Powered by HARMAN
HARMAN will showcase the Rinspeed Budii concept vehicle powered by HARMAN technologies based on the electrically-driven BMW i3. The Budii car is a future-forward look into the next generation of autonomous driving. Built with an intelligent HARMAN infotainment system and custom Harman Kardon sound system, the vehicle touts an exceptional, personalized in-car experience built for entertainment and connectivity without compromise to safety and security.
HARMAN and EY Join Together at IAA to Shape the Future of Mobility
At their joint booth at New Mobility World, HARMAN and EY exhibit how they are using HARMAN’s award-winning automotive expertise and EY’s trusted testing and consulting to challenge the future of mobility. Its existing collaboration with the Rinspeed Budii concept car brought together the two forces to develop innovative automotive concepts, proving how the future of cars can stem from the initiative of leading visionaries across different industries.
