HARMAN to Present a Comprehensive End to End Vehicle Telematics Security Solution at escar Europe Conference
STAMFORD, CT – HARMAN International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE: HAR), the premier connected technologies company for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, will present and discuss the company’s latest End-to-End Telematics Security Solution at the escar Europe Automotive Cyber Security Conference. HARMAN will also sponsor the premier forum for those working to identify and minimise threats to data and vehicles, held in Munich, Germany, on 16-17th November 2016.
Founded in 2003, escar has established itself as a place of collaboration on the topic, with leading manufacturers, aftermarket companies, press and analysts in attendance. Yuval Weisglass, Sr. Director R&D will commence the event’s Secure In-Vehicle Communication discussions at 14:45 (CET) on Wednesday, 16th November with an invited talk about authentication methods for CAN messages - which stemmed of a joint work with a major OEM.
Alongside its talk, HARMAN’s continued innovation in the sector will be evident through a number of demonstrations and lectures at the event. The End-to-End Telematics Security Solution is built on top of two key components – TCUSHIELD and the newly announced Alerts Monitor. TCUSHIELD is an embedded software solution which safeguards, alerts and protects against out-of-bounds attacks such as those exploiting cellular channels. The new Alerts Monitor software product serves as an infrastructure for aggregating, collecting and visualising actionable security intelligence. With many of the most recent, high profile hacks achieved using cellular communication, HARMAN’s solution offers unprecedented levels of prevention for this type of attack vector.
With the support of HARMAN’s embedded security products such as ECUSHIELD and TCUSHIELD, the Alerts Monitor allows actionable data and exposes a RESTful API to be integrated with third party systems. With partnerships such as the recently announced collaboration with Airbiquity to develop the first automotive grade end-to-end intrusion detection system (IDS) for connected vehicles, the ability to monitor via a custom dashboard, will have greater relevance.
HARMAN’s cyber security solutions - ECUSHIELD, TCUSHIELD and Alerts Monitor are being developed using the latest security practices, including SAE J3061, Auto-ISAC’s and the NHTSA’s Cyber Security Best Practices for Modern Vehicles documents.
“Our launches at escar highlight how dramatically our offering has changed from being purely ‘in vehicle’ to a true ‘end to end’ solution,” says Asaf Atzmon, Director, Business Development and Marketing, HARMAN Automotive Cyber Security. “By working in tandem with the industry and the government, HARMAN can also offer a secure solution off-board as well as the intelligence to make the best use of the data collected. At escar, we look forward to exchanging ideas on how we can work together to preserve our security in and out of the car.”
HARMAN’s sponsorship of escar Europe follows its support of the sister event in Asia in September and is part of HARMAN’s leading role within the industry together with manufacturers, government and academic institutions to define cyber security standards and policies for autonomous and connected vehicles.
HARMAN is the industry leader in automotive cyber security solutions for the automotive OEM market. It has placed significant emphasis on cyber security protective measures, including launching the industry’s first comprehensive multi-layer security framework for in-car technology design, and acquiring leading cyber security specialist TowerSec in January 2016. HARMAN is also a member of the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC), a coordinated auto industry effort to establish a secure platform for sharing, tracking and analysing intelligence about cyber threats and potential vulnerabilities.
