Harper Adams University College stands out as one of the best higher education institutions in the UK in the 2011 National Student Survey, published today
(August 17).

The University College, based in Shropshire, specialises in subjects related to the food chain and rural economy and is placed 8thequal out of 152 institutions in the survey results, with an overall student satisfaction rate of 91 per cent.

This result keeps Harper Adams at the top of the field for specialist higher education in the land-based sector.

Dr Noel Morrison, Academic Registrar at Harper Adams, said: “The outcomes of this year’s National Student Survey confirm the outstanding quality of education and support which students receive at the University College. Taken together with our exceptional graduate employment rate, studying at Harper Adams is an increasingly popular choice for students.”

In its niche areas, Harper Adams performs even better, appearing equal 5thfor agriculture and related subjects (3rdfor more specific agricultural subject areas), and in the top five for “food” and for “animal science”.

When the results are broken down, Harper Adams is consistently ahead of national satisfaction scores for each area surveyed: teaching, feedback and assessment, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and overall satisfaction.

Individual student comments fed back to the University College heap praise on the level of support available to students from staff.

Harper Adams’s Vice Principal, Professor Peter Mills, added: “As you might expect, we are delighted with these results that put Harper Adams in the top 10 higher education institutions in the UK for student satisfaction. I’m very proud of both our staff, who work exceptionally hard to deliver a high quality education, and also our students who obviously take full advantage of, and appreciate the opportunities we offer.”

The NSS results will be available to the public on http://unistats.direct.gov.uk/ from Wednesday August 17.
