New scholarships for Irish students
£3,000 scholarships for students from Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland
THE Harper Adams University College Development Trust is delighted to announce the creation of five new scholarships for students whose home is in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.
The Principal Dr David Llewellyn said “The University College has welcomed students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland for more than 100 years and 2011 is no exception, with over 40 new students having travelled across to England to begin their studies in September.
“At Harper Adams, students have found not only a centre of excellent higher education, but also a home from home, with the dedicated Harper Ireland society and fellow students from across the UK providing friendship and a great social life.
“It is a pleasure to be able to now launch these scholarships, supported by donations to the Harper Adams Development Trust, which shows our dedication to continuing our strong tradition of educating and supporting students from across Ireland.”
The University College, near Newport in Shropshire, was established in 1901 and has grown to become the UK’s largest specialist provider of agriculture, agricultural engineering, food, agri-food and agri-business; land and estate management, countryside and environment veterinary nursing and animal degree programmes.
Harper Adams has been named University College of the Year by the Sunday Times for the past five years. Achieving top 10 places in both graduate employability and student satisfaction league tables, the University College is well recognised for the quality of the degrees that it offers and is very proud of the successes of its graduates from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Following an interview round to be held in Belfast and Dublin in May 2012, the new entrance scholarships will provide each of the five successful applicants with an award totalling £3,000 for the three years that they spend studying on campus.
The funds may be used by scholars to offset tuition fees or living costs. All students studying at Harper Adams also undertake an industry placement as part of their course for which they usually receive a salary.
Dr Llewellyn will be attending the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society Winter Fair in Belfast on 8 December 2011 and is looking forward to meeting friends old and new.
