Teenagers invited to sign up for residential taster event

Harper Adams University College is now accepting applications for its popular summer residential taster course “Higher Education Choices” (HEC)

HEC has had a makeover this year, and now takes place from Sunday 8thto Monday 9thJuly, beginning at the end of a public open day at the University College.

As a result, potential students and their families can all visit the campus from 9.30am on the Sunday. There will be opportunities to tour the campus and farm, attend talks about the various courses and other matters including student finance, and sample the delicious Harper Adams catering.

Then, at 4pm, HEC begins and the students will be left to fly solo on their taster experience, enjoying a sample of Student Union fun, an overnight stay in the halls of residence and, on the Monday, a range of practical activities that will help them choose the right course to suit their interests.

HEC has been running at Harper Adams for more than 20 years, and applications have far exceeded the number of places available in recent years. The event is open to anyone aged 16 or 17 who wants to find out more about university life and the courses offered at Harper Adams, in areas including engineering, agriculture, land management, veterinary nursing, animal welfare, business, food, and much more.

Harper Adams Students’ Union president Kevin Broe says: “HEC is the best way to find the right university course for you. Coming to HEC gives you a real taste of Harper life and makes you feel part of something very special. From HEC you forge a load of new friendships along with getting a taste of Harper student life both academically and socially. HEC is a fun, vibrant experience that you will remember for years to come.”

Giving the closing talk at HEC this year will be David Gardner, who will explain how he went from a non-agricultural back ground to having a highly successful career as the Head of Fruit Operations at Co-operative Farms.
